Plan your escape.
Two routes.
Via Mykonos
Fly into Mykonos, rent a car (hundreds of euros cheaper than Syros itself), take the short ferry across. We recommend a smaller car: roads and parking in Ermoupoli can be tight. Some arrangements allow inter-island transfers; we have previously used Argus and Budget, but check directly before booking.
Ferries are almost always late: allow at least three hours between your ferry arrival and your flight on the way home. Online check-in is usually required and opens around 24 hours before departure. At Mykonos port, ignore the pick-up lanes along the harbour; the ferry loading lanes are set back and are not always clearly signed.
Via Athens
You may need an overnight near Athens airport, depending on flight timings: London to Athens and Syros the same day can be tight. A 35-minute Sky Express flight onto Syros from Athens, then local rentals through Maistrali at the airport or the port. Ferries from Athens are an option but take four hours plus.
This summer.
Search Tesseris Filoi on Google Maps, or use what3words: ///paint.chips.form. Coordinates: 37°23′44.1″N 24°53′31.5″E. The villa is in Poseidonia (Finikas Bay), around ten to fifteen minutes from Ermoupoli port and airport.
If you have time between your ferry and your flight on Mykonos, Compass (Greek, family-friendly, opens 11am) and Zuma (modern Japanese, summer only) are both good options for lunch.
